Thanks to Osocio for this picture- a "billboard" commissioned by the US government to promote clean air located along the US/ Canada boarder. Called "Non-Sign II," the sculpture (designed by Seattle-based Lead Pencil Studio) truly does give us an understanding for the importance of negative space in design. And shows the government has an eye for art, apparently. The empty rectangle is supposed to frame only the sky as motorists drive by and nothing else is captured within the rectangle as viewed from the road. As my mom would say- "your tax dollars hard at work." Can we spend more from whichever budget this choice came from?
