Will.i.am now probably has the two sweetest jobs in the world. A rock star and, as of today, Director of Creative Innovation at a little company called Intel.
Intel thinks Will.i.am represents the "global youth culture" and will keep them at the fore of the newest of the new technology, music and other gadgetry. I think Will.i.am has just signed on with the largest computer chip maker in the world for a multi year contract with limitless innovation possibilities. Just as Polaroid appointed Lady Gaga as its creative director in 2009, Intel sees the value in having its new ideas represented by a public figure with a unique image. This serves not only to soften the Intel image but also gives the company a strategic foothold among the Black Eyed Peas enviable number of fans (they have sold 26 million records, won 6 Grammys, and just today it was announced they have launched the first 360 degree view of a music video via an iPod app).
Somehow I think of running innovation for Intel as being something like a child in Willy Wonka's chocolate factory- Intel is a part of so much we are talking about, using everyday, and thinking about for the future even if we cannot see the product itself. Even I can hum the Intel jingle (bummmm bum bum bum bum) and come up with the name of the Pentium Processor. This is company that will continue to be relevant and at the fore of technology and much of what we have not even begun to imagine for the future.
Feel free host an Intel workshop at SRG, Will...
