Nintendo Turns Diabetes into a Game

As if the gaming industry hasn’t pushed the bounds of innovation far enough, Nintendo and health-care giant Bayer have partnered to create a video game that awards diabetic kids for staying on schedule with their glucose testing.

“Knock 'em Downs World's Fair” is the first game ever to incorporate this type of innovation, giving kids game points which help them speed through each level when they stay on track with their glucose tests. Whereas before a finger prick from a tester was thought of as a chore, now kids reportedly have been looking forward to each test.

This is one of a few actions Bayer has undergone to help regain their portion of the $7 billion a year blood-glucose testing market. The game has already been released in the UK and is expected to hit the US marketplace in May.
